Price indication: a bit more expensive but worth the price
Chiang Mai has a lot of Thai restaurants, a few Northern Thai restaurants, a few seafood Thai restaurants, and probably even fewer Southern Thai restaurants. In several years, I only came across Janhom but I’m completely satisfied with their kitchen.
Southern Thai food is generally more spicy than Northern Thai food, and there is a different play of ingredients, for example coconut and herbs, making it quite delicate and delicious.
I’ve been to Janhom a few times now, and almost all dishes are very good, even simple standard Thai dishes like fried egg are simply much better than in your average local Thai around the corner.
Janhom seems to be run by a Southern Thai family but they definitely have a very good chef in the kitchen.
The atmosphere is nothing to write home about, in fact it’s a bit messy with some nice antique furniture and other stuff that doesn’t really match, so from the outside you wouldn’t expect here houses a great kitchen.
In fact, if you wouldn’t know, you would never find the place as it’s hidden at the entrance of the golf driving range opposite Airport Plaza and few people would ever notice it. I’ve been going to Airport Plaza for years and never thought about checking out the dull shops near the golf driving range, but now I know.
Location: just opposite the main entrance of Airport Plaza, cross the road and you’ll see a large parking area. Turn right into the footpath toward the driving range and you’ll see it on your right.
